Events and Happenings concerning India’s National Security.

16-Mar-16 A bomb explodes in a passenger vehicle carrying government employees in Peshawar, Pakistan, killing 15 and wounding at least 25.
16-Mar-16 PM Modi’s address at the World Sufi Forum
17-Mar-16 The Government has relaxed cabotage restrictions for ports which transship at least 50% of the container handled by them. The cabotage relaxation will enable shipping lines to consolidate Indian EXIM and empty containers at transshipment ports in India for onward transportation to destination ports by main shipping lines.
18-Mar-16 Indian Air Force conducts Day – Night Exercise ‘Iron Fist’ In Rajasthan.
19-Mar-16 A suicide bomber killed four people in Istanbul. Forty-six people were wounded in the attack.
21-Mar-16 PM lays foundation stone for Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial; delivers Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Lecture.
22-Mar-16 Belgium Airport and Metro Station Bombing – 32 people and three suicide bombers killed, and 340 people injured.
22-Mar-16 The India-Russia Joint Commission meeting was held in New Delhi. The meeting focused on cooperation in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction.
23-Mar-16 PM Narendra Modi and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina inaugurated second cross border transmission (100 MW) system between India and Bangladesh and the transmission of 10 GBPS internet connectivity between Bangladesh and Agartala.
23-Mar-16 The Ashgabat Agreement: The Union Cabinet has given approval for India to accede to the Ashgabat Agreement, an international transport and transit corridor facilitating transportation of goods between Central Asia and the Persian Gulf. The Ashgabat Agreement has Oman, Iran, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as founding members. Kazakhstan is another participant in this arrangement. India’s intention to accede to the Ashgabat Agreement would now be conveyed to the Depository State (Turkmenistan). India would become party to the Agreement upon consent of the founding members.
24-Mar-16 7 police officers killed in an attack in Afghanistan’s southern Kandahar province
25-Mar-16 26 people were killed in a triple suicide car bomb in Aden (Yemen).
26-Mar-16 Iranian President Hassan Rouhani visited Pakistan in his first state visit. His two-day visit concluded on 26th March. Earlier in January Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan’s Army Chief Raheel Sharif visited Iran.
27-Mar-16 Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha on four-day long Visit to Israel. During his visit, He met the Israeli Defence Minister Mr Moshe Ya’alon, Lieutenant General Gadi Eisenkot, Chief of the General Staff, Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Major General Amir Eshel, Commander of Israeli Air Force and Mr. Ophir Shoham, Director of the Ministry of Defense (MOD), Directorate for Research and Development MAFAT.
27-Mar-16 72 people were killed, including 29 children and over 200 others people were injured in a suicide bombing at the entrance of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park.
28-Mar-16 The 9th Defexpo India on Land, Naval and Internal Homeland Security Systems was inaugurated by RM Manohar Parrikar at Naqueri Quitol, Goa.
28-Mar-16 Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif cancelled his visit to the United States in the backdrop of Lahore terrorist attack. He was scheduled to attend the Nuclear Security Summit in USA.
29-Mar-16 PM Modi leaves for three nation tour of Belgium, USA and Saudi Arabia. In the USA he will attend the Nuclear Security Summit.
30-Mar-16 Seven Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel killed in an IED attack on their vehicle in Dantewada district.
31-Mar-16 Turkey’s Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz said that the military base for Turkey’s air force and navy in Qatar will be ready within two years as part of a defense agreement signed between the Turkey and Qatar. He was talking on the sideline of DIMDEX – 16 (Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition And Conference) in Doha.
