16-Feb Part of ‘Belt and Road’ initiative, first freight train from China reached Iran, via Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, travelling a distance of 10,399 kilometers. Silk Road Train left Yiwu city in east China’s Zhejiang Province on January 28.
16-Feb Naxal-affected states to get 100 All India Radio stations. The first radio station will be constructed at Gadchiroli in Maharashtra. The aim behind the move is to win the confidence of the people who are residing in the insurgency-hit areas, reported Asian Age.
16-Feb Google’s ‘Project Loon’ tests begin in Sri Lanka.
17-Feb China has placed surface-to-air missile equipment on Woody Island, part of the disputed Paracel Islands in the South China Sea.
18-Feb 2nd Joint Working Group on Aircraft Carrier Technology Cooperation (JWGACTC) meeting between India & United States concluded in New Delhi. The meeting was organised in India from 15 to 18 February 2016.
18-Feb MHA Mr Rajnath Singh reviews the LWE scenario in Andhra Pradesh. Mr Rajnath Singh said that the spread of LWE affected districts declined to 141 in 2015 from 162 districts in 2014. MHA said the Centre has approved construction of fortified police stations in the state. Andhra Pradesh has completed the construction of 11 fortified police stations and the work is under progress in three fortified police stations. The MHA has also approved one extra battalion of BSF to Andhra Pradesh. The communication network in LWE areas of Andhra Pradesh has been strengthened. Out of 53 mobile towers allotted in the first phase, 33 are activated and the remaining 20 are under construction.

19-Feb-16 CRPF Director General (DG) Prakash Mishra said that Maoists are gaining activities are on upsurge again in Odisha & Telangana. DG Mishra said that areas around the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha Border and those within Odisha need more attention. Reported by NDTV.
19-Feb In an interview to German Weekly Spiegel, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said introducing surface-to-air missiles in Syria is going to change the balance of power on the ground.
20-Feb A Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist arrested in Budgam district of Jammu & Kashmir.
21-Feb Taliban blown up a girls’ school in Tiarza village of tribal South Waziristan, Pakistan. There were no casualties.
22-Feb Security Forces neutralized three terrorists in a 48-hour long gun battle at Pampore, Jammu & Kashmir. Six Indians lives were lost.
 24-Feb At present, 106 districts in 10 States have been identified by the Government of India as Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts in the country, stated Minister of State for Home Affairs in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
25-Feb Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha called on PM of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina during his 5-day visit. Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha was on an official visit to Bangladesh from 21 Feb to 25 Feb 16.
25-Feb The Government of India is sending 44 Metric Tonnes of relief material to Cyclon hit Fiji. The relief material is being airlifted from New Delhi and Chennai and being sent to Suva, Capital of Fiji. The relief material includes basic food supplies, medicines, tents and kitchen sets. The relief material is being sent in consultation with Officiating Ambassador of India in the Fiji capital Suva. The National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs is coordinating the relief operations with the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Food Processing, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Defence, Indian Red Cross Society and NDRF. Fiji was hit by Category Five Cyclone, with wind speed 325 km/hr and waves up to 12m high. Reported by PIB.
26-Feb Defence Minister stated in Loksabha that there has been no report or instance of any cyber breach of secured networks of the Armed Forces over the past three years. However, there have been some instances of cyber-attacks of internet connected computers of other establishments under Ministry of Defence. The Armed Forces have air gapped and exclusive secure networks. These are separated from civil and public networks. Management of these exclusive networks including ensuring cyber security, is carried out by the respective Armed Forces.
27-Feb Multilateral Military drill ‘North Thunder’ was launched in the Northern part of Saudi Arabia. Forces of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Senegal, Sudan, Kuwait, Maldives, Morocco, Pakistan, Chad, Turkey, Tunisia, Comoros, Djibouti, Oman, Qatar, Malaysia, Egypt and Mauritania, in addition to the Peninsula Shield Forces are participating in the drill. Saudi Press Agency reported that The ‘North Thunder’ is the largest military drill in the world in terms of the number of participating forces as well as the breadth of the maneuver area. The North Thunder drill focuses on training forces on how to deal with terrorist groups and how to transfer from traditional operations to low-intensity operations.
Defence Budget for Financial Year 2016-17 will be Rs 2,58,589 Crore with Capital Outlay of 78586.68 Crores.
